The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06Corvette fans have been anticipating a new mid-engine Corvette. It is coming and has been designed with a flat-plane crank V-8 engine that will sound unlike any other Corvette.

The flat-plane crankshaft is inherently much louder than a cross-plane crankshaft. Flat-plane crankshafts are generally associated with European sports cars like the Ferrari.

The new Corvette looks meaner than the mainstream C8 thanks to flared fenders, larger air scoops, and aero-dynamic additions that actively adjust to maximize high-speed downforce and cornering traction.

Flat plane crankAlong with its exclusive powertrain and enhanced appearance, the super Z06 will inherit all the best features and technology from the regular model. Although the full details about the new Z06 are undisclosed, here are some we know.

The first mid-engine Corvette Z06 is expected to go on sale in the US in early 2022 as a 2023 model. The cost is estimated to be around US $87,000 or NZ $125,000 based on exchange rates for August 2021, as the US writers can only speculate on how much it'll cost once it goes on sale next year.

The new Corvette Z06 has a naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 that will rev between 8,500 and 9,000 rpm and is expected to produce over 600HP. It will also have an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Considering that the 495HP 2020 Corvette Z51 goes from 0-100 Kph in 2.8 seconds and does a standing quarter mile in 11.2 seconds at 195 Kph, the Z06 is expected to be even quicker.

A Corvette on the trackThe plan is to add a set of wider, stickier tyres and more powerful brakes that should help corner harder and stop faster than the regular Chevy Corvette.

Chevy have spoken about strengthening the structure and recalibrating the suspension tune on the new Z06 to help make sure its performance advantages are most obvious on the racetrack.

A host of active aero-dynamics are also in the mix to automatically adjust to optimise downforce for even better road handling.

The Corvette's multi-layered dashboard will have a 20cm touchscreen that supports GM’s Infotainment-3 plus system and should share the same interface and features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Bose stereo systems are expected to be offered, a standard 10-speaker system or an optional 14-speaker setup. The new Z06 will continue to offer the Performance Data Recorder, which allows you to record video of everything from your track exploits to relaxed cruising or a drive to the office.
