Ford vehicles are built at many different locations and factories around the world. As you may well know, the Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford in 1903, and the headquarters are located in Dearborn, Michigan, USA. A hundred and sixteen years of Ford vehicles, both great and in some cases not so great.

Ford may have started life making cars for the American domestic market but now the brand is known everywhere. The Ford Motor Company produces all of the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands but they also have had part ownership with Volvo, Mazda, Aston Marin, Land Rover and Jaguar.

A lot of Ford's vehicle production activities happen outside of the USA and they have continued over recent years to divest themselves of involvement with other brands and directly focus on their own brand using the “One Ford” by-line. Ford vehicle sales are often similar with and sometimes higher in Europe than they are in the USA. VW is the only other vehicle brand to out sell and out manufacture Ford on a regular basis.

Ford has developed a knack of working in the niche markets of Europe, Africa and Asia, matching product with local needs producing a level of success in these areas.

A quick look at some data from a few years ago you can see that Ford manufactures more than half its vehicle in locations outside of the USA. If you add back the output from Canadian and Mexican plants then the numbers balance up a bit better. So, international business continues to be super important to the Ford Motor Company.
